Decisions, decisions

In creating space for a new acquisition I've had to make some hard decisions about Tredethy Wharf's future. Many people have expressed the opinion that I shouldn't scrap the layout, my wife being one. My concern is that small sections of the track are beginning to rust. While I can remove the rust, I have to wonder—how many times can I do this before the rail sustains lasting damage?

The other issue that arose from creating space for the new project was space to store all of Tredethy Wharf. While assessing the challenges I've faced with the layout—particularly in transporting it along with the cassettes—I made the drastic decision to scrap the cassette boards and support structure. If Tredethy Wharf gets a new lease of life my thoughts being could the layout fit in the car better by;

  • Using Rospeath Lane's support structure would save a lot of space in the car.
  • New scenic board transport cases could be constructed incorporating the lighting pelmet into its top. Like I've done with Rospeath Lane's transport cases.
  • New cassette boards can be built that are half the depth of the previous ones.
  • The scenic break ends could be attached to the cassette boards and fold down so protecting the cassette to track conection, like I've done with Rospeath Lane.
  • There also maybe the opportunity to include the control panel in one of the cassette boards being protected by the fold down end. This again would reduced items needing space in the car.
These thoughts do indicate that Tredethy Wharf could be renovated at some point in the future.
